DALLAS, June 23, 2026 — Children’s Health and The Shops at RedBird broke ground today on the Children’s Health Specialty Center RedBird, marking a major milestone in expanding access to pediatric health care for families in southern Dallas County.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought together Children’s Health and The Shops at RedBird leaders, community partners and local elected officials for remarks and a ceremonial demolition marking the start of construction on the new specialty center and the next phase of redevelopment.

“Today marks an important step forward for families in southern Dallas County,” said Christopher J. Durovich, President and Chief Executive Officer of Children’s Health. “This facility reflects our long-standing commitment to this community and our belief that every child deserves access to high-quality, specialized care close to home. We are proud to partner with community organizations and leaders who share that commitment as we invest in the long-term health and well-being of the children we serve.”
Expected to open in December 2027, the approximately 42,000-square-foot facility will provide primary care, behavioral health services, urgent care and a range of pediatric specialty services, including orthopaedics and sports medicine through the Children’s Health Andrews Institute for Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine. Located in the former Red Bird Mall Macy’s building, the center represents a continued investment by Children’s Health, The Shops at RedBird and community leaders to expand access to pediatric care closer to home.
“The Shops at RedBird has always been rooted in opportunity and growth for southern Dallas,” said Peter Brodsky, Chief Executive Officer of The Shops at RedBird. “Children’s Health is bringing an essential resource into the community while continuing the momentum of RedBird’s ongoing redevelopment.”
“Today is an exciting day for southern Dallas County,” said Royce West, who represents Texas Senate District 23. “Our community has long advocated for greater access to pediatric services closer to home, and we are grateful to see this investment becoming a reality. This new specialty center will help support healthier futures for children and families across the region for generations to come.”
