DALLAS, May 23, 2024 — Children’s Medical Center Dallas and Children’s Medical Center Plano have achieved designations from the American College of Surgeons (ACS) Children’s Surgery Verification™ (CSV) Quality Improvement Program. Children’s Medical Center Dallas has been re-verified as a Level I Children’s Surgery Center, and for the first time, Children’s Medical Center Plano has achieved a Level II designation, making it the only Level II Children’s Surgery Center in Texas.
Children’s Health is the first and only pediatric health system in the nation to receive Level I and II designations at multiple sites. Children’s Medical Center Dallas is among five hospitals in Texas and one of 53 hospitals in the nation with a Level I designation, the highest level of distinction a surgery center can obtain.
“This achievement represents the exceptional pediatric surgical care provided at Children’s Health,” said Dai Chung, M.D., Chief Medical Executive for the Children’s Health and UT Southwestern joint pediatric enterprise. “The ability to have a prospective match for every child’s individual surgical needs, regardless of complexity, supports our mission to make life better for children and is made possible by the remarkable dedication of our surgical teams.”
The CSV program developed the standards to improve surgical care and are the nation’s first and only multispecialty standards for children’s surgical care. The program was designed to specifically address the surgical care of infants and children in the hopes of helping providers match families with the best surgical care available that meets their child’s unique needs.
Applying for this verification is a rigorous process and includes site visits by an ACS team of surveyors. These visits consisted of evaluations by experienced pediatric surgeons, anesthesiologists and nurses who reviewed our structure, processes and clinical outcomes data.
