DALLAS, July 1, 2014 — Children’s Health System of Texas President and Chief Executive Officer Christopher J. Durovich has been named winner of the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year™ 2014 Award in the Health Care category for the Southwest Region. The award recognizes outstanding individuals who demonstrate entrepreneurial excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance, and personal commitment to their organizations and communities. Durovich was selected by an independent panel of judges, and the award was presented during the program’s annual gala in Dallas on June 21.
“Our mission at Children’s is to make life better for Children, and delivering on that mission requires an entrepreneurial approach to the way we operate,” said Durovich. “I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition on behalf of the dedicated team of 6,000 employees and our medical and dental staff, to whom the creation, growth and success of Children’s Health System of Texas are certainly due.”
Durovich joined Children’s in 2003, when profound changes in health care were beginning to take place. After careful analysis, he embarked on a transformation of Children’s from a stand-alone downtown Dallas community hospital into a world-class pediatric health care organization. Under Durovich’s leadership, Children’s has grown to be the nation’s seventh largest pediatric health system, including two full-service hospitals, 54 specialty programs, 16 MyChildren’s pediatric primary care practices, and the Children’s Research Institute at UT Southwestern. Children’s receives 760,000 patient visits annually, and is the second busiest pediatric emergency room in the nation.
Now in its 28th year, the EY Entrepreneur Of The Year program will hold its annual awards gala in Palm Springs, Calif., in November, when the National Overall Award Winner will be named from among all regional winners.
