DALLAS, Dec 3, 2013 — he Children’s Medical Center neonatal/pediatric Transport team has been awarded the Neonatal and Pediatric Transport Award of Excellence by the National Association of Air Medical Services (AAMS). The Award of Excellence is one of the most distinguished awards presented in the field of specialty air medical services. It recognizes significant contributions to the overall enhancement of neonatal/pediatric transport patient care.
Children’s, the fifth-largest pediatric healthcare provider in the country, transports more than 5,800 neonatal and pediatric patients with life-threatening emergencies annually. The Transport team at Children’s is the premier team for life-saving transports of infants and children throughout Texas, and provides national and international transport services in special cases.
The Children’s Transport team, established nearly 25 years ago, mobilizes the first-class care at Children’s Medical Center so neonatal and pediatric patients in life-threatening conditions without access to specialized care can be quickly transported to a health care facility for appropriate neonatal and pediatric treatment. The award-winning Transport service consists of highly specialized vehicles that operate as mobile intensive care units, including 10 ambulances, one helicopter and one fixed-wing aircraft.
“Our transport team is dedicated to coordinating and providing the highest quality of safe medical transport, and we are honored to receive this award,” says Scotti Floyd Edgar, director of Transport Services at Children’s. “When we are called upon in these emergency situations, we have to be prepared to move safely and quickly and provide the highest level of care required for the sick and injured children we are transporting. This responsibility brings with it our commitment and focus to consistently improve the quality of neonatal/pediatric transport patient care we provide.”
The Transport team is a seasoned group of critical care nurses, respiratory care practitioners and paramedics who have experience in emergency rooms, pediatric intensive care units and/or neonatal intensive care units.
The Children’s Transport team was the first neonatal/pediatric specialty team in the U.S. to receive accreditation in all three modes of transport – fixed-wing, rotor-wing and ground – by The Commission on Accreditation of Medical Transport Systems, an organization dedicated to improving the quality of patient care and safety of the transport environment. The Children’s Transport team was also the first in the country with a jet solely dedicated to neonatal and pediatric transport.
